Cervix - transformation zone - image description

The diagram shows the womb and the cervix (which is the lower part of the womb). Below the cervix is the very top of the vagina. The surface of the cervix, which is at the top of the vagina, is covered with cells called squamous cells. On the diagram, this area is shaded in. The cervical canal is the part of the cervix that goes into the womb. This is lined with columnar cells and is shaded differently on the diagram. The area where the squamous cells and columnar cells meet is shaded differently again. This area is called the transformation zone, and it’s the area where the most abnormal cells changes occur.
