Macmillan Grants - Middlesbrough and North East England
There are almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, including at least 5,500 people in Middlesbrough. (i) Around 830 people are also diagnosed with cancer in the borough each year. (ii) This is around two people a day - and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs.
All local authorities within the North East are among the top 30% for income deprivation.
We are here to help when you need it
Macmillan Cancer Support has spent more than 100 years helping people living with cancer. We know how a cancer diagnosis can disrupt your whole life - your relationships, your job, your finances and more. And it can be made worse simply because of who you are and where you live. But we’re here to change that.
If you have cancer, you may be entitled to a Macmillan grant that can make a difficult time that little bit easier. These one-off payments of £350 can help cover the extra costs that come with a cancer diagnosis such as travel costs to hospital, clothing or heating bills, so you can focus on your health.
Macmillan grants are available to people with cancer in all local authority areas within the North East of England, provided they meet eligibility criteria.

(ii) ‘830 people’ figure refers to average annual incidence from 2015 to 2019 and is sourced from: Office for Health Improvement and Disparities. Public health profiles. Selecting ‘Incidence of all cancers, standardised incidence ratio’ shows a new table with incidence figures for 2015-2019 combined; dividing this figure by 5 gives an annual estimate of around 830 people for Middlesbrough.
