The snowflake challenge

The challenge

We've devised a fun, festive activity to say thank you to you our amazing Macmillan volunteers for all of your efforts this year, and the enormous impact you’ve had.

As well as producing step by step instructions to make your own paper snowflake, we asked our Senior Designer Jonjo to star in a ‘how to’ video - though it’s ended up being more of a how-NOT-to video.

Watch Cara and Jonjo's attempt, take on the challenge and see if you can do a better job, we reckon you’ll do great.

You can make your snowflake as simple or as elaborate as you like – swirls, fancy paper, glitter, rainbow colours – go all out!

When you’ve finished, we’d love to see what you’ve created, so post a picture of your snowflake on the Macmillan Volunteering Facebook page or email them to us and we’ll share our favourites.

Follow the instructions below to get started:

Step 1 - paper folding instructions

Step 1

Fold your square piece of paper diagonally in half to make a triangle.

Step 2 - paper folding

Step 2

Now fold this in half again so that you are left with a smaller triangle.

Step 3

Fold the left edge and the right edge of your current shape to meet in the middle so that you form a kite shape.

Step 4

A nice simple vertical fold and you’re almost there.

Step 5

You’ll need a pair of scissors now to snip the smaller triangle off.

Step 6

You can use our illustration as a guide, but this is the time to get creative by cutting away chunks of this triangle. Remember, fortune favours the brave!

Step 7

Take a breath and unfold to reveal...your masterpiece/an important life lesson on the limits of bravery…(delete as appropriate).
