Tough Mudder FAQs

  • What is Tough Mudder?

Tough Mudder is an obstacle course made to challenge your fears! You’ll be tackling extreme heights, icy water, electric shocks and lots of mud! There are distances to suit every runner and city events that are less muddy but just as fun.

  • How long is Tough Mudder?

Distances vary by location, but there are 5K, 10K and 15K to choose from. Remember you don’t have to run the whole course so don’t be afraid at taking on a longer challenge!

  • How do I train for Tough Mudder?

After you sign up we will send you a training guide to make sure you are well prepped for event day. Due to the nature of the event this will include running and weight training.

  • What do I wear for Tough Mudder?

Gym wear, old shoes and you very own Macmillan Running T-shirt that you can order when you sign up! Please be advised that you should not wear any cotton based garments on event day as these soak up the water on the course and it will be harder for you to stay warm.

  • Is there an age limit for Tough Mudder?

You must be aged 14 or over on the day of the event to take part. Any participants under 18 must take part with someone 18+.

  • Can I enter as a team?

Yes, we can register teams of up to six. You will have a combined pledge, for example 3 team member will have a pledge of £900. If you would like to have a team of more than 6 please email running@macmillan.org.uk and we can discuss this on a case by case basis.

  • Is Tough Mudder timed?

There is no timing chips on Tough Mudder as it isn’t a race! The most important part of the day is helping others and contouring your fears so no matter when you finish you will all be Legionaries!

  • Do I have to run the whole course?

No, Tough Mudder doesn’t need to be ran and many participants walk between obstacles. We would advise that you run off the start line though and charge towards your first obstacle with no fears!

  • Can I skip an obstacle?

Yes, if you don’t fancy taking an ice cold plunge or getting electrocuted all obstacles are able to be walked around.

  • How long will Tough Mudder take?

Depending on the distance it will take around 1 hour for the 5K and up to 5 hours for the 15K. You’ll be facing an obstacle roughly every 0.5 kilometres and sometimes there can be queues which may slow down your pace.

  • Can I bring someone to watch?

Yes, Spectator passes can be bought directly from Tough Mudder on their website.
