About this booklet
This booklet is written with the childhood bereavement charity Winston’s Wish. It is a practical guide to help you begin to have some of the hardest discussions you will ever have. We include details of some people and organisations who can support you as you prepare to talk to your children about what is happening.
These people will be able to help you and your family now and in the future. You don’t have to face this difficult time alone.
You will find suggestions on how to:
- tell a child or teenager you are going to die soon
- understand their reactions
- help them cope
- explain what is likely to happen.
How we can help
If you have cancer, you may be able to get a Macmillan Grant to help with the extra costs of cancer. Find out who can apply and how to access our grants.
There are lots of benefits that could help you after a cancer diagnosis, but the system can be confusing. Our Welfare Rights Advisors are here to help.
