About the podcast

Half of us will get cancer at some point in our lives. What Matters to Me tells the stories of people with cancer and looks at how Macmillan and the people around us help us live life as fully as we can.

Over the series we’ll invite people living with cancer, their family, their friends and Macmillan professionals to share a glimpse into the ups and downs, the language and taboos, that make living with cancer a journey that matters to us all.

Episode 1: Anna's story

In our first episode we listen to Anna speaking candidly about her experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer some ten years ago.

Having a cancer diagnosis is a very personal thing and we can all react quite differently. In this podcast, Anna, who works for Macmillan, chats with some of her colleagues about her feelings, the challenges the came about, and she shares some of the ups and downs of those early weeks after diagnosis.

Episode 2: Wayne's story

In our second episode we listen to Wayne talking about raising an incredible £200,000 for Macmillan after sadly losing his daughter Rhian to cervical cancer seven years ago when she was just 25.

Wayne, who is a volunteer for Macmillan as well as a supporter, chats about Rhian’s story and how he has given back so much to Macmillan as well as Velindre Cancer Centre in her memory.
