FAQs

If you have questions about your Mighty Hike, then you’re in the right place. From signing up to fundraising, training and all the way to the finish line, everything you need to know is in our FAQs below.
  • When does registration close?
Registration closes on 23:59 on the Friday one week before a Mighty Hike Closing dates are different for each Mighty Hike, so please check your event page for the exact date. If a hike sells out before this time it will close sooner – so don’t leave it too long!
  • How old do I have to be to hike?
You must be 18 or over to sign up yourself, but you can still take part if you’re aged 14 to 17. You’ll just need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who’ll need to complete your registration form and sign a Parental Consent Form. Unfortunately, under 14s aren’t able to take part.
  • How can I transfer my place to someone else?
If you can no longer make your Mighty Hike, you can transfer your place to someone else. Just email us or call 0300 1000 200 with the name and email address of your replacement, and our team will be happy to arrange the transfer for you.

Please note, transfers cannot be made less than one week before the event.
  • How can I transfer my place to a different Mighty Hike?
If you’d prefer to take on a different Mighty Hike, we’ll be happy to help. You can transfer to another event as long as there are spaces available on that hike. If you’re part of a team, your Team Captain can request a transfer for the whole team.

Just email us or call 0300 1000 200 and let us know which Mighty Hike you’re signed up for, and which one you’d like to switch to.

Please note, transfers cannot be made less than one week before the event. After this point, we’re unable to make any changes to your booking.
  • How can I cancel my place?
We’re sorry you can’t make your Mighty Hike. Just email us or call 0300 1000 200 as soon as you can and we’ll cancel your place for you. Please note that registration fees are non-refundable.
  • What happens if an event sells out?
If your preferred Mighty Hike has sold out, don’t worry - you can still join the waiting list! Please note that places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis as they become available.

If you’re offered a place, we’ll email you with an invitation to register for the hike within 7 days. If you’ve changed your mind, that’s not a problem - you can simply decline the invite.

  • I need a carer/support worker to support me through the hike, is this possible?
Absolutely! We want everyone to feel supported to take part in a Mighty Hike. If you need a carer or support worker to join you on the hike, please email us or call 0300 1000 200 and we’ll be more than happy to talk you through the next steps. There’s no registration fee for carers or support workers.
  • Can I amend my booking?
Yes, you can make changes by heading to ‘Manage my Booking’ at the top of this webpage. Here, you can do things like book parking or add new members to your team.

If you need to make further changes, please email us or call 0300 1000 200 and we will be happy to help. Please note, changes cannot be made after the booking deadline has passed, which is the Friday one week before your Mighty Hike.
  • Why is there a £250 fundraising pledge?
Your fundraising makes a huge difference to people living with cancer. Over the last few years, the cost of delivering a fully supported hiking series like Mighty Hikes has increased significantly, and the £25 / £20 registration fee doesn’t cover all these costs. A fundraising pledge ensures that the majority of money you fundraise can be spent doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care possible. With this pledge, Mighty Hikes have raised over £70 million since 2015.
  • What is the minimum fundraising pledge if I sign up for multiple events?
If you’re taking on more than one Mighty Hike – that is amazing! Even if you have signed up for several Mighty Hikes, we still ask you to raise a minimum of £250 for each event.
  • When do I need to raise my pledge by?
You’ll have plenty of time - we ask for you to try and have your pledge raised 4 weeks after your Mighty Hike.
  • How do I set up my JustGiving page?
Creating your JustGiving page couldn't be easier and means all your donations are sent directly to Macmillan Cancer Support. Simply click here, chose your event and start fundraising. For more guidance you can see our fundraising guide.
  • How do I set up a team JustGiving page?
If you’re hiking as a team, you can follow our guidance on setting up your page to fundraise as a team by clicking here.
  • I’m having problems with my JustGiving page
Head over to the JustGiving help page as they will be able to help with any problems you have with you JustGiving page.
  • Can I fundraise offline?
Absolutely! See our fundraising page for all of the ways you can fundraise, including the option to download more sponsorship forms. If you are using JustGiving, you can add your offline donations to your total too.

Need help setting up your fundraising page?

  • Do I need to train for my Mighty Hike?
We definitely recommend it! Whether you’re taking on a full or half marathon hike, training will help you feel prepared and ready to enjoy your Mighty Hike. Take a look at our Training guide to help you get start-line ready.
  • When should I start training?
This depends on your current fitness levels and the hike you are doing. Our training guide includes both 6-week and 15-week training plans, so you can choose the one that works best for you.
  • How long will it take to complete my Mighty Hike?
Everyone hikes at their own pace, but most people can expect to complete the full marathon Mighty Hike between 7 and 12 hours, and between 4 and 6 hours for the half marathon, depending on terrain and ability.
  • Are toilet facilities available?
Yes, there will be toilet facilities available at the start, finish, pit stops and lunch stop, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to use them throughout your Mighty Hike.
  • Are refreshments provided?
Yes, you will not get hungry at a Mighty Hike! We’ll provide you with a buffet lunch, and a hot meal at the finish line for the full marathon hikers. There’s also two pit stops along the route where you can load up on snacks and drinks. All dietary requirements will be catered for, and you can specify these on the registration form. You can see a sneak peak of the lunch and dinner menu here.
  • Is there a bag drop service?
Yes! There will be a bag drop facility at the information tent at the start event village. Your bags will be transported to the finish ready for you to collect. Baggage is left entirely at your own risk.
  • What do I need to bring with me?
The Great British weather likes to keep us on our toes, so come prepared for all conditions and make sure you have everything you need for a comfortable and safe hike. Take a look at our full kit list for everything you’ll need to bring.
  • Can my friends and family support me?
Absolutely! We’d love your friends and family to join us at the finish event village to cheer you across the finish line and celebrate your amazing achievement.

For everyone's safety, supporters aren’t able to join you along the route or meet you at the pit stops. At a small number of events, friends and family may also be unable to access the finish event village. If this applies to your Mighty Hike, we’ll make this clear in your event pack.
  • Am I allowed to bring my dog?
We know your four-legged friends might make great hiking companions, but unfortunately dogs aren’t able to take part in Mighty Hikes, with the exception of assistance dogs. This is due to landowner permissions and applies across the whole route, including the start and finish locations.

If you need the support of an assistance dog, please email us or call 0300 1000 200 in advance and we’ll be happy to help arrange the necessary permissions.
  • Can I run the route?
Mighty Hikes are all about taking on an incredible hiking challenge rather than racing to the finish, so running the route isn’t permitted. Our event timings, support and facilities are all planned around a walking pace, helping us make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience along the route.
  • Where can I access my photos?
You can access your photos on the Sportograf website on the Monday after your hike – we’ll email you to let you know when they’re ready so that you can relive the day!
  • I have an issue with my photos, who should I contact?
If you have any issues, please check Sportograf’s FAQs, or reach out to their team directly.
  • Do I have to pay for my photos?
No - your Mighty Hikes photos are free and included in your registration! You will need to add your photos to your basket on the Sportograf website, but the cost will be removed when you reach the checkout area of the website.

If you have any problems with this, please contact Sportograf directly and their team will be more than happy to help.
  • Where can I access my results?
You can find your results on the Results Base Mighty Hikes webpage.
  • Can I download a certificate?
Yes! Once you have found your results on the Results Base website, click on your name and you’ll see an option to download your virtual certificate.  If you’d like something to keep, you can also purchase a personalised certificate on our online shop.
  • I have an issue with my results, who should I contact?
If you have any issues with Results Base, please email their team directly and they’ll be happy to help.
  • I lost something on the day, what should I do?
Oh no! We hold onto any lost property found at our events for four weeks after the event. Please email us to let us know what you’ve lost and a brief description of it (e.g. the colour, brand etc) and we’ll check if it’s been handed in. If we have it, we’ll arrange to post it back to you.
  • I have set up a JustGiving page and raised money, how do I transfer this across to Macmillan?
When you’ve fundraised using a JustGiving page, all donations will automatically transfer across to Macmillan, meaning there’s nothing for you to do!
  • I’ve collected cash donations for my Mighty Hike, how do I send these to you?
While we don’t recommend sending cash in the post, there are plenty of other ways you can pay in your fundraising – take a look at our Paying In page.
  • Can I volunteer at a Mighty Hike?
Absolutely! Our volunteers are at the heart of every Mighty Hike. Join Team Green and be part of an incredible community bringing the energy, encouragement and support that makes every Mighty Hike so special.

No experience is needed – just plenty of enthusiasm! Take a look at our volunteering page to find out more and sign up.
