Our partnership with Boots

Boots UK and Macmillan Cancer Support are working together to ensure people affected by cancer, wherever they are in the UK, have access to the best cancer information and support in their local community.

By combining our expertise to deliver innovative services and improve access to localised support across the UK, we aim to connect people and their loved ones to information and support in their community. Ensuring people affected by cancer can have conversations about the wider, practical and emotional issues, at a time when they need it most.

We aim to do this by inspiring Boots UK colleagues to become passionate, active ambassadors for Boots UK and Macmillan in their local communities. By offering unique volunteering and fundraising opportunities, we will enable colleagues and customers to raise vital funds for people affected by cancer and ensure that no one faces cancer alone.

By providing bespoke training to Boots UK pharmacists and No7 Advisors, we aim to utilise their expert health and beauty advice to help people affected by cancer feel more like themselves.

Since the partnership began in 2009, Boots UK colleagues and customers have raised over £12 million and continue to raise significant funds for Macmillan to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

Cancer information and support

By providing Macmillan training to Boots UK pharmacists we aim to improve people’s experience of cancer. They can help you with questions you may have about cancer and help you find support and information in your local community.

There are also No7 Advisors who have been trained by Boots UK and Macmillan to help and support people manage the visible side-effects of cancer. They can give you free, face-to-face advice about caring for your skin, hair and nails.

Customers can also pick up free information leaflets in store including Questions about cancer? Get clear answers. This leaflet tells customers all about the partnership and Macmillan’s support services. You can also pick up the Feel More Like You leaflet which gives you step by step take home advice for your skin, hair and nails during cancer treatment.

In October 2015, 26 Boots colleagues embarked on one of the toughest physical challenges of their lives – completing the Inca trail and climbing to the top of Machu Picchu, raising an incredible £150,796 to support people affected by cancer.

This was the second challenge Boots colleagues completed in two years, after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2014. In total, across the Boots UK Peru and Kilimanjaro challenges, more than £550,000 has been raised for Macmillan. This could fund ten Macmillan nurses for a whole year, helping more than 1,600 people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional help.

Neil Jones, CSR Manager, Boots UK, said: 'It was a fantastic team experience, where everyone really pulled together both before and during the trek. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro was one of the toughest physical challenges that most of us had ever faced but knowing the difference that our fundraising could make to peoples’ lives gave us the motivation and determination to carry on.'

Customers can support Macmillan by visiting their local Boots store across the country and buying countertop items, such as pin badges and key rings.

These beautiful charm key rings are examples of our fundraising merchandise items that are available in Boots UK stores, while stocks last. For a suggested donation of £3 you and your friends can feel good knowing that you are helping to ensure no one faces cancer alone.
