Join Team Macmillan for the ABP Southampton 10k! This fantastic event offers runners the choice of either a 10K, Half Marathon or Marathon race, along closed roads through the heart of Southampton

All three races start and finish in the heart of Southampton’s city centre with the run course passing iconic local landmarks including Bargate, QE2 Anchor and St Mary’s Stadium. Sure to be the race highlight will be running both the ascent and more popularly the descent over the Itchen bridge, which will be closed exclusively for this unique event.

How do I get my own place?

There are two ways to get yourself signed up for the ABP Southampton 10K.

Macmillan Charity Place: We would love to have you on the team for this year's ABP Southampton 10k. We ask that you pledge to raise a minimum sponsorship of £175 (excluding gift aid) and there’s a £20 registration fee. (The registration fee is payable to Macmillan Cancer Support Trading Limited which is wholly owned subsidiary of Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan Cancer Support Trading Limited donates 100% of its profits to Macmillan Cancer Support each year). To apply, simply click the 'get a place' button and complete our online application form.

Your Own Place: Public entry for the 2020 ABP Southampton 10K will be opening soon at the official race website. Once you’ve secured your place just click the ‘Join Team Macmillan’ button to join us. There’s no minimum sponsorship, just raise as much as you can!

How do I register?

Select your chosen event above and click 'Sign up now'.

How much is the registration fee?

The registration fee is £20 for the 10k distance.

What is the minimum age to take part?

The minimum age to take part in this event is 16. Children aged between 14-16 can still take part as long as they're accompanied by an adult who is 18 or over. The accompanying adult must complete their registration forms and will be asked to sign a parental consent form.

When will registration close?

Registration will close approximately 6 weeks before event date, or when the event sells out. After this date we cannot accept any new registrations for charity places.

I already have my place in this event, can I still run for you?

Of course! Both those with charity places, and their own places are welcome to join our team. We’d love to help you prepare for your event, and send you a fundraising pack, running top and other helpful information for the big day! Please fill in our online form to join our team.

When will I receive my fundraising pack?

You will receive your fundraising pack with running top approximately 2-3 weeks after you have completed your registration on the race organisers website.

When will you hear from us?

Once you have signed up for a place on the race organisers website you will receive a confirmation email from them confirming you have completed your registration. You will then receive your fundraising pack from us approximately 2-3 weeks after this time. We will also send you regular emails filled with fundraising, training and event information.

If I can no longer take part, will I get a refund?

Unfortunately, we are unable to give refunds for places after the registration fee has been paid.

When will I receive my race pack?

You will receive your fundraising pack with running top approximately 2-3 weeks after you register for your place on our website.

Once I have signed up, how do I know my registration is complete?

You will be sent a link to complete your registration form closer to the event. This must be completed at least 6 weeks prior to the event to guarantee your place. Please check your junk folder if you think you have not received this email.

Will Macmillan be there on the event day?

Yes, Macmillan will be in the event village before and after the event and will also have a cheer point located on the route. Be sure to look out for the sea of green!

How do I register as part of a team?

Sign up individually and then contact us to say that you are going to be fundraising as part of a team 

Is there a discount for teams? 

No, there is not 

I’m taking part with a team, do we all have to raise the minimum fundraising amount? 

Yes, you will need to raise the minimum fundraising amount of £175 for each member of your team. You can, however, choose to split the total in any way you like between the team if some people are comfortable raising more than others.

Fundraising FAQs

What is the minimum fundraising amount for each event?

We ask you to raise a minimum of £175 to help people living with cancer. This includes anyone aged between 14-16.

Why is there a minimum fundraising amount?

As with any charity, organising these events costs money. The £20 registration fee doesn't cover all the costs Macmillan undertake to be part of this event. The minimum fundraising amount helps ensure the costs of the event are covered and the majority of the money fundraised is spent on our vital services to help people affected by cancer.

What is JustGiving and how do I set up a page?

JustGiving is one of the most trusted platforms for online giving and is very simple to use. Once you've set up your page you can share it with friends, family, and colleagues and they can make an online donation of their chosen amount, and leave you a message. It will also ask if their donation is eligible for Gift Aid.

The money donated to your page comes straight to Macmillan, which means no trips to the bank or hours counting pennies.

What happens if I don't raise the minimum fundraising amount?

It is important that everyone reaches the minimum fundraising pledge of £175 to ensure Macmillan doesn't lose money on your participation and the majority of what you raise helps those affected by cancer.

We provide you with as much help as we can to help you reach this amount, and our Supporter Care Hub is also available on 0300 1000 200 or via email if you want further help. If it gets to a point where you feel you really can’t fundraise anymore then you are welcome to donate the remaining amount yourself.

Can Macmillan help with my fundraising?

Definitely! Once you’ve registered, keep a look out for your Fundraising Pack in the post which should arrive within 2-3 weeks. This includes a comprehensive fundraising guide with advice and ideas on how to reach your fundraising target, along with a sponsorship form and other resources. You can also find information on our website in our fundraising section.

We will also be in touch every couple of months with helpful e-newsletters, and you can email or call our Supporter Care Hub on 0300 1000 200 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) anytime you have a fundraising question. They will also be able to order any materials you may need including collection boxes and buckets, balloons, posters, and extra sponsorship forms.

How will my fundraising help?

£250 could pay for five people living with cancer to attend a health and wellbeing event, providing them with the skills to improve the management of these areas in their lives.

£335 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together.

£546 could pay for a Macmillan Social Care Worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.

Every £800 we spend on our phone service could lead to our welfare rights advisors on the Macmillan Support Line helping people living with cancer claim up to £31,480 in benefits they are entitled to.

£1,203 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
