Macmillan Cold Water Challenge
About the challenge
Take the plunge and Immerse Yourself in Cold Water every day for a month for Macmillan Cancer Support! Simply immerse yourself in a cold shower, an icy bath or a chilly lido for 30 seconds each day. It certainly won’t be easy, but it will leave you feeling good in mind and body – and the money you raise will do good too.
Why should I get involved?
Take on the challenge and you’ll feel good while doing good for people living with cancer.
Most importantly we'll provide you with a reason to keep going because you'll know that you're helping improve the lives of people living with cancer. Donations make up 98% of our annual income so we simply couldn't do what we do without you.
Your safety
This challenge is entirely at your own risk, so please assess your ability and safety before you participate. Macmillan Cancer Support shall not be liable for any injury, damage or loss to you or your property that might occur as a result of your participation.
FAQs
The Challenge:
-
What is the ‘Immerse Yourself in Cold Water for 31 Days Challenge?
Challenge yourself to brave the chill and immerse yourself in cold water for at least 30 seconds every day for a month. Could you brave a cold shower, an icy bath or a dip in a chilly lido? It certainly won't be easy, but it will leave you feeling good in mind and body – and the money you'll raise will help raise vital funds for Macmillan.
-
Do I need to provide evidence to the charity that I have completed the challenge?
We trust that you will be honest about your chilly dunks, but we recommend sharing your progress with friends and family to encourage them to sponsor you!
-
Who can take part in the challenge?
We do not recommend anyone under the age of 18 participate in the challenge unless supervised by an adult. You will need to be 18 years or above to register and to set up a fundraising page. If you have underlying health conditions (i.e. heart disease, asthma, lung conditions) or any other medical conditions that might be affected by exposure to cold water, or if you are pregnant, then please seek appropriate medical advice before proceeding.
-
What safety precautions should I take?
Your health and safety is our top priority. We strongly advise you read our Cold Water Safety Guidance here before participating.
-
Can I do outdoor/open water/wild swimming as part of my cold water challenge?
Macmillan Cancer Support does not recommend outdoor swimming, unless under supervision by trained staff e.g. in a lido. We recommend these alternatives instead:
- Ice bath
- Cold shower
- Swimming in a lido
- Ice bucket
- Plunge pool at a leisure centre
-
Is cold water therapy a treatment for cancer?
Macmillan Cancer Support is in no way suggesting that cold water therapy is a treatment for cancer. This fundraiser is a fun way to feel invigorated and to help raise vital funds for Macmillan to support people living with cancer.
