Payroll giving

By setting up Payroll Giving you can help support people living with cancer no matter what their diagnosis or situation. Read the answers to your frequently asked questions.

What is Payroll Giving?

Payroll Giving is also known as Workplace Giving and Give As You Earn (GAYE). It is a scheme run by your employer which allows you to give a charitable donation to Macmillan (or any charity) tax-free through your salary. Your donation will automatically stop when you leave your employer.

What are the benefits of Payroll Giving?

Not only is it a simple way to support us, but it's also tax effective because donations are deducted before you pay tax.

If you donate £10, only £8 comes out of your net salary and the taxman pays the rest. Or if you're on a higher tax rate (40%), only £6 comes out of your net salary and the taxman pays the rest.

There are also other benefits:

  • Ease - It's easy to set up.
  • Privacy - We don't need your bank details as the donation will come straight to us from your salary.
  • You're in charge - You can change or stop your donation at any time by contacting your payroll department.

How will I be helping Macmillan

By giving through your salary each payday, you will be helping us continue providing physical, financial and emotional support through all the services we offer. The fact that we know how much and how often you will donate means that we can plan ahead and make sure your hard-earned cash is put to the best possible use.

How much will my donation cost if I am a standard rate taxpayer?

  • £10 donation - The cost of your donation from your gross salary - £10
    You only pay - £8
    Your tax saving - £2
  • £12 donation - The cost of your donation from your gross salary - £12
    You only pay - £9.60
    Your tax saving - £2.40
  • £25 donation - The cost of your donation from your gross salary - £25
    You only pay - £20
    Your tax saving - £5
  • £50 donation - The cost of your donation from your gross salary - £50
    You only pay - £40
    Your tax saving - £10

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, your tax saving will be at the higher rate.
