Frequently asked questions
How do I make a donation by text?
Text MOBILE to 70550 to make a £5 single donation
Text REGULAR to 70550 to donate £5 a month.
Text donations will be added to your phone bill or taken from your pay as you go credit.
Make sure you have the bill payer's permission. You must be aged 16+. We can currently only accept donations from UK mobiles.
What will I be charged and what will Macmillan receive?
For one-off donations by text, you will be charged the amount you have chosen to donate, plus the standard text message rate specified by your network. For monthly donations, you will be charged the donation amount, plus the standard rate each month. Macmillan receive 100% of all donations.
The standard network charge for text messages is at your network provider's rates. If the keyword or short code you text are incorrect, you may still be charged a message at your standard network rate. However you won't be charged by us for the donation as you won't be donating to Macmillan.
You can make as many individual donations as you like by text, but the overall amount must not be more than £30 in a single day. If you try to donate more than £30 in a day from the same mobile number, you may still incur your standard network message charge.
How will my donation be used?
We rely on donations for 98% of our income, and your money will help us to provide a variety of services that help make sure we can continue to be there for people living with cancer, no matter what their situation. Find out more about what we do, or see a detailed breakdown of how we’ve spent our income in our Annual Report.
I do not have a UK mobile phone. Can I still donate by text?
You can only donate by text from a UK mobile phone. You cannot donate using this service from a Channel Islands, Isle of Man or other non-UK mobile.
Can I donate from overseas using my UK mobile phone?
No. Your phone needs to be connected to a UK network at the point of texting to be able to donate.
Who can make a donation by text?
You must obtain permission from the bill payer before sending a text message. If you are under 16 years old, you must have your parent or guardian's permission to send a text donation to Macmillan.
How will you protect my data?
Your data will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. Your data will only be used to keep you informed about our fundraising, activities, events, and services if you consent to marketing by text.
Text donations will be added to your phone bill or taken from your pay as you go credit and passed to Macmillan in an aggregated form.
