The Macmillan Legacy of a Lifetime Garden at RHS Wentworth Woodhouse
Macmillan at RHS Wentworth Woodhouse
There are approximately 55,200 people living with and beyond cancer in South Yorkshire. This number will continue to rise, and for many, the cancer experience is getting worse.
In 2024, Macmillan’s Support Line services supported 2146 people in South Yorkshire and Macmillan had 26 Professionals actively funded in this area. Over a third of our services are funded by gifts in wills and we hope this garden will inspire visitors to create a lasting legacy for people living with cancer.
We’ve worked closely with Pandora Ryan, who has created a space which will allow visitors to contemplate how leaving a gift in their will to Macmillan can be their lasting legacy, helping those living with cancer in the future. At the garden’s centre there will be a still water pool, approached by three chequerboard paths. These symbolise our shared journey through life and the challenges of navigating a cancer diagnosis. Visitors are invited to release seed-infused ‘fallen leaves’, mirroring how a gift can nurture future generations.
Opposite, the ‘Pillars of Strength’ sculptural centre piece, stands as a quiet monument to resilience, support and enduring impact. Its reflective surfaces mirror the water and surrounding landscape, while its engraved illustration reinforces the role of Macmillan and the far-reaching effects of legacy giving.
More information on the garden coming soon.
How gifts in wills help
Over a third of Macmillan’s vital services are funded by gifts in wills. You can leave your stamp on the future of cancer care by leaving a gift in your will to Macmillan.
The number of people living with cancer in the UK continues to rise and so every gift we receive is essential. Each one means we’ll be able to keep doing whatever it takes to support people who need us in the future.
We understand that this is a big personal decision. We hope that after making sure your loved ones are taken care of, you’ll consider leaving a percentage of your estate to us as well.
