Macmillan Cancer Support at the RHS Wentworth Woodhouse Flower Show 2025
We are proud to sponsor the Legacy of a Lifetime Garden designed by Pandora Ryan which will be showcased between the 16-20 July.
The garden has been designed to illustrate how special and vital a legacy gift is to future generations of people living with cancer. We aimed to create a peaceful space where visitors can remember, reflect and feel connected. We invite those who visit the garden to pause, honour those they love and consider how one final, heartfelt gift in their will could help us do whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are.
About the Legacy of a Lifetime Garden
The Macmillan Legacy of a Lifetime Garden is inspired by the quiet beauty of a woodland glade. This woodland glade acts as a powerful metaphor for legacy giving. Just as a glade is a quiet clearing within a forest, a space which has been shaped by time, light and nature, a gift left in a will to Macmillan is a lasting act of generosity which creates a space for others to thrive.
1 in 2 people will develop some kind of cancer during their lives and an estimated 4 million people are expected to be living with cancer by 2030. One of the main features of the garden is the ‘Pillars of Strength’ sculpture, made up of three steel pillars which symbolise how gifts in wills fund over a third of Macmillan’s services.
The ‘Pillars of Strength’ sculpture features a laser-cut illustration of a tree, representing the far-reaching ‘branches’ of support that Macmillan provides. Each branch showcases a type of support offered by Macmillan and reminds us that these vital services are made possible by the generous donations made by our supporters, including those who have chosen to leave a gift in their will.
The reflective pool invites visitors to see themselves within the space, encouraging them to reflect on their own impact on the world and the legacy they may leave behind, while also acting as a reminder that anyone can leave a gift in their will.
Meet the Designer, Pandora Ryan
“It has been a privilege to be able to design a space that not only honours the legacy of those who support Macmillan but also highlights the importance of supporting future generations.
This cause holds deep personal meaning for me. I lost three of my grandparents to cancer and each one was profoundly supported by Macmillan nurses. The charity’s care extended beyond the individual, offering comfort and guidance to the family during very difficult times.”
