Macmillan 1 to 1: WhatsApp messaging support service
The impact of a cancer diagnosis can be a lot to process. This service offers check-ins from trained Macmillan advisors via WhatsApp messages, over a period of 6 weeks. We can talk about whatever is on your mind, when it suits you.
This is a new service that Macmillan is developing, so that we can offer new ways to support people living with cancer. Please read all the information on this page before registering for the service.

How we can help
- Type to talk – ideal if you prefer to have a conversation over written messages, rather than on the phone.
- Communication on your terms - reply in your own time and schedule follow up conversations when it best suits you. All via WhatsApp, an app you might already use every day.
- We’ll keep checking in – offering ongoing support, Macmillan is here when you need us.
- Completely confidential – All conversations are private, just like our other services. WhatsApp end-to-end encrypts all messages.
How it works
- Sign up to the service by completing the registration form.
- A trained advisor will reach out via a WhatsApp message with more information about the service and to start a conversation with you.
- After your first conversation, you and the advisor will agree when you would next like to talk.
- There’s no need to contact us again on WhatsApp, an advisor will message you on your agreed follow- up date.
- You can arrange your follow up conversations within the hours of 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.
Important information
- This service is currently in a trial period and therefore is available to a limited number of people and for a limited amount of time (an initial period of 6 weeks).
- To access this service, you should have had a cancer diagnosis yourself within the last 5 years, be over the age of 18, live in the UK and have access to WhatsApp. If you would like to get in touch with us another way, please visit our Get Help pages.
- This is a messaging service only – we will not use WhatsApp to make calls to you, and you should not send us voice messages, images or videos.
- Please note it is not guaranteed that you will always speak to the same advisor on WhatsApp.
- This service is currently only available in English.
