Mobile Information and Support Service

We offer free face to face support and information in your local community. Our team of experts are ready to listen and help you access a variety of support.

COVID-19 update

Macmillan's priority is the health and well-being of people with cancer, our staff and volunteers. In response to government guidance related to coronavirus (COVID-19), we've taken the difficult decision to cancel MISS bus visits for the time being. This is help reduce the spread of the virus and to limit any unnecessary risks.

We will be monitoring the situation over the coming weeks and months. We are doing everything we can to make sure our services are here to provide clinical, financial and emotional support at this difficult time.

Virtual Mobile Information and Support Service

We've launched a Virtual Mobile Information and Support Service, so you can still access support from the regular MISS bus teams. You can send us questions by email, and we'll offer you support and provide information about local services. If you have questions about cancer, or would like to find out more about information and support services in your area, please get in touch at mobileteam@macmillan.org.uk.

About the Mobile Information Support Service

The Macmillan buses visit communities all year round, giving support to people who are living with or who are affected by cancer. Macmillan staff and volunteers on board can give information and support if you are living with or affected by cancer.

The six green buses are called Basil, Bertie, Beryl, Betty, Bronwyn and Dougie. The buses travel across the country, making it easier for you to get support if you live far away from one of our Information and Support centres.

Every bus has a quiet area if you want to have a private chat, and there’s no need to book an appointment.

Macmillan staff and trained volunteers give free information and advice on a range of issues, including:

  • Cancer signs and symptoms
  • Getting emotional support if you have cancer
  • Information on different cancer types, treatment and side effects
  • Money matters and work
  • Help if you are caring for someone with cancer
  • Finding further support in your area

“The team on board was very helpful and patient, they listened to me and gave me the confidence to open up and speak freely. I was given all the information I needed and was able to obtain travel insurance based on the information and advice I received that day.” Sheila, diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2012
