Siobhan's story
Siobhan navigated her breast cancer diagnosis as a person with bipolar disorder.
“During my treatment, I experienced an 18 month long bipolar episode brought on by my cancer prevention treatment. I shared my experience of having cancer along with a life-long mental health condition with Macmillan and they took action. We were able to reach out to others using their wide network of support activities and I connected with many other people affected by cancer. This culminated in Macmillan asking me to join a UK-wide steering group devising and delivering mental health services for people with cancer.
"Macmillan is outstanding in involving people with lived experience in every aspect of their work including at the highest levels. I felt relevant again and that I had something to say that people wanted to listen to. It was so life affirming and gave me back my self respect.”
