Nicolas Lee

Research Lead, Evidence Department

Nic leads the Research team, responsible for Macmillan’s primary research function including strategy, partnerships and commissioned and funded programmes. Nic joined Macmillan in 2014. He manages a team of highly skilled and experienced social researchers with a background in mixed method research. They focus on scope definition, research design, commissioning, research management, analysis and insight generation, and dissemination to different audiences.

The team are responsible for a portfolio of grant funded and commissioned research projects exploring social and economic gaps in the evidence and building a robust evidence base relating to cancer. In addition, a core function of the team is to build Macmillan’s capacity to bring evidence to the centre of their decision-making and strategic planning processes.

Nic is a highly experienced social researcher with over 20 years experience in health and social care arenas. He has expertise in mixed methodology approaches with a qualitative slant. He previously worked as a research consultant for a broad range of clients, including the European Commission, government departments, local authorities, regional agencies, and third sector organisations. Prior to this he was engaged in education and capacity building for Nacro and the Department for Works and Pensions.

Nic is a south Londoner, residing in Peckham Rye with his wife and two children. He’s a keen sportsman with a passion (Tottenham Hotspur) for playing both football and cricket, and a committed commuting cyclist.
