Responding to the Scottish budget announced today, Kate Seymour, Head of Advocacy at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
“We welcome the additional £200m Finance Secretary Shona Robison has committed to reducing waiting times and reforming Scotland’s health service. This promise of investment is a step in the right direction that could help improve cancer waiting times and cancer care in Scotland, but what really matters for people living with cancer is the delivery of these promises. Targets for cancer waiting times have been missed for over a decade. It’s vital we now see a detailed roadmap for how this investment will deliver the urgent change needed and transform cancer care. This should include the impact these funds will have on the cancer workforce and equipment to ensure everyone affected by cancer, no matter who they are or where they live, has access to the support they need without delay.”
