Responding to January 2024’s Personal Independence Payment (PIP) data for England and Wales, Minesh Patel, Head of Policy at Macmillan Cancer Support, says:
“It’s unacceptable that waiting times are higher now than they were this time last year, leaving far too many people with cancer having to wait months on end to receive vital financial support.
“Day in day out people with cancer tell us about the devastating impact a diagnosis can have on their finances. This is leaving people anxious and worried about making ends meet when their priority should be focusing on their health. The UK Government recently announced extra funding for processing claims, but we urgently need clarification on how this will be used to reduce delays, as today’s damning figures demonstrate faster action is needed.”
