Turning the Tide: Why Wales Needs a Cancer Care Revolution in 2026
On 7 May 2026, Wales heads to the polls in the most consequential Senedd election since devolution began. This is a moment of transformation—and Macmillan Cancer Support is ready to lead the charge for change.
The 2026 Senedd election isn’t just about politics—it’s about people. It’s about the 190,000 people in Wales who’ve had a cancer diagnosis, and the thousands more who will face one in the years ahead. It’s about equity, dignity, and the right to timely, compassionate care—no matter your postcode, background, or diagnosis.
Today, cancer care in Wales is in crisis. Waiting times are too long, support is inconsistent, where you live determines the care you receive and outcomes you achieve. The 75% target of people starting treatment within 62 days of first suspicion has never been met. Cancer mortality is 52% higher in our most deprived areas.
Developed with people affected by cancer and frontline professionals, Macmillan’s Senedd 2026 manifesto, sets four priorities for the next Welsh Government:
- A 10-year National Cancer Strategy – long-term, inclusive, and accountable, led by a dedicated Minister for Cancer.
- A well-supported cancer workforce – with equal access to training, career progression, and data-driven planning.
- A revolution in cancer data and digital infrastructure – empowering patients and professionals alike.
- A holistic, person-centred cancer system – with access to emotional, physical, and practical support wherever and whenever it’s needed.
Our message is clear: delays cost lives, and disparities must end.
Across Wales, organisations are calling for better health and social care, more prevention, and stronger support for professionals. Macmillan is proud to stand with them—and with every person affected by cancer.
This election is a turning point. Let’s turn the tide.

Troi’r Llanw: Pam Mae Cymru Angen Chwyldro Gofal Canser yn 2026
Ar 7 Mai 2026, bydd Cymru'n pleidleisio yn etholiad mwyaf arwyddocaol y Senedd ers i ddatganoli ddechrau. Mae hon yn foment o drawsnewid — a mae Cymorth Canser Macmillan yn barod i arwain y newid.
Nid yw etholiad Senedd 2026 yn ymwneud â gwleidyddiaeth yn unig —mae hefyd yn ymwneud â phobl. Mae'n ymwneud â'r 190,000 o bobl yng Nghymru sydd wedi cael diagnosis o ganser, a'r miloedd o'r rhai eraill a fydd yn wynebu un yn y blynyddoedd i ddod. Mae'n ymwneud â thegwch, parch, a'r hawl i ofal amserol, tosturiol —ni waeth beth yw eich cod post, cefndir, neu ddiagnosis.
Heddiw, mae gofal canser yng Nghymru mewn argyfwng. Mae amseroedd aros yn rhy hir, mae'r gefnogaeth yn anghyson, mae'r lle rydych chi'n byw yn pennu'r gofal a gewch a'r canlyniadau y byddwch chi’n eu cyflawni.; Nid yw'r targed o 75% o bobl yn dechrau triniaeth o fewn 62 diwrnod o amheuaeth gyntaf o ganser erioed wedi cael ei gyflawni. Mae marwolaeth drwy ganser 52% yn uwch yn ein hardaloedd mwyaf difreintiedig.
Wedi'i ddatblygu gyda phobl sydd wedi'u heffeithio gan ganser a gweithwyr proffesiynol y rheng flaen, mae maniffesto Senedd 2026 Macmillan yn pennu pedwar blaenoriaeth ar gyfer Llywodraeth nesaf Cymru:
- Strategaeth Genedlaethol Canser 10-mlynedd - hirdymor, cynhwysol, ac atebol, wedi'i arwain gan Weinidog penodedig dros Ganser.
- Gweithlu canser wedi'i gefnogi'n dda – gyda mynediad cyfartal i hyfforddiant, datblygiad gyrfa, a chynllunio wedi'i lywio gan ddata.
- Chwyldro mewn data canser a seilwaith digidol – grymuso cleifion a gweithwyr proffesiynol fel ei gilydd.
- System canser gynhwysfawr, sy’n canolbwyntio ar yr unigolyn – gyda mynediad at gefnogaeth emosiynol, corfforol ac ymarferol ble bynnag a phryd bynnag y bydd ei angen.
Mae ein neges yn glir: mae oedi yn costio bywydau, ac mae'n rhaid i'r gwahaniaethau ddod i ben.
Ledled Cymru, mae sefydliadau yn galw am ofal iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol gwell, mwy o atal, a chymorth cryfach i weithwyr proffesiynol. Mae Macmillan yn falch o sefyll gyda nhw—a gyda phob person sydd wedi cael ei effeithio gan ganser.
Mae Macmillan yn barod i fod yn bartner mewn newid. Byddwn yn gweithio gyda'r llywodraeth, GIG Cymru, gweithwyr proffesiynol, a chymunedau i wireddu'r weledigaeth hon.
Mae’r etholiad hwn yn drobwynt. Gadewch i ni droi’r llanw.
