Dr Wendy Makin - Medical Director Christie Foundation Trust, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust

During a distinguished career including more than 20 years as a Macmillan palliative care doctor, Wendy’s work has made a huge impact on many people. From her appointment as Macmillan’s first Consultant in Palliative Care and Oncology to her current role as Medical Director of The Christie in Manchester.

In addition to providing strong leadership, she has also influenced and championed many Macmillan initiatives, including the Macmillan Cancer Improvement Partnership in Manchester, and the very successful North Manchester Macmillan Palliative Care Support Service.

Among her many achievements, she has led on patient involvement, ensuring the service user is at the centre of all we do and that they are involved in co-producing service redesign and implementation. Her determination to integrate palliative medicine and multidisciplinary working into the patient pathway has inspired professionals across greater Manchester, both Macmillan and non-Macmillan professional alike.

Her extensive knowledge, tireless energy, and extraordinary dedication to people living with cancer have consistently led to excellent outcomes, and deserves the highest recognition.

She is truly an outstanding Macmillan ambassador.
