Charlotte's Story Screening Event for Blood Cancer Awareness Month

To mark Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Macmillan Cancer Support and Black Women Rising came together for a special screening event at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton, bringing people together to listen, learn and reflect on the experiences of people living with and beyond blood cancer.
Screening event
The evening centred around a screening of Charlotte's Story, part of Macmillan's Cancer and My Disability series. In the film, Macmillan storyteller and Black Women Rising member Charlotte Crowl shares her experience of being diagnosed with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma at 17 years old, the long-term impact of treatment, and what it means to navigate life after cancer.
Following the screening, guests heard from Charlotte in a live conversation with hosts Bev and Orin from the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), exploring the realities of life after treatment, the importance of community, and the experiences of people affected by cancer within the Black community.
Charlotte was then joined by Macmillan Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist Rachel Benson for some audience questions, creating an open and honest space for people to share reflections.

Black Women Rising supports women of colour through every step of their cancer journey by delivering culturally sensitive peer support, amplifying their stories, and influencing the cancer landscape to address racial health disparities.
