This part volunteer/part funded service is provided by an experienced Macmillan Benefits Adviser. The adviser provides advice and practical support to patients, their carers and family members on a range of issues such as benefit entitlement, debt, housing, employment, travel costs etc. She also provides information about other sources of financial help available to people affected by cancer. During the current pandemic, the service is offered via telephone/facetime. Usually the service is offered by appointment at home, at Citizens Advice Bureaux in Northallerton or Richmond, and/or by telephone. Referrals to the service are made by the Specialist Pallitaive Care Nurses, Macmillan Information and Support Centres at the Friarage Hospital, James Cook University Hospital and Darlington Memorial Hospital and local Citizen Advice Bureaux for any patient living within Hambleton and Richmondshire. Patients and their families can also self refer.
Patients must live in the Hambleton and Richmondshire districts, be registered at a GP surgery in Hambleton and Richmondshire or attend the Friarage Hospital for treatment.
