The days are getting lighter, the flowers are starting to blossom and spring is most definitely in the air. It can all only mean one thing: Macmillan’s Volunteer Conference and Awards event is just around the corner! We’re thrilled to announce that applications for this year’s event are now open, so read on to discover how to apply for your spot.
Macmillan’s annual bash celebrates the fantastic volunteers like you who kindly give their time and effort to support people with cancer. This year’s event takes place at the fabulous Blackpool Hilton Hotel from
17 - 18 May (these dates have shifted from 18 - 19 May due to the Royal Wedding). If last year is anything to go by, it’s set to be an absolute cracker.
There’s loads to look forward to including friendly networking sessions and informative workshops to supercharge your volunteering. What’s more, the Spotlight stage is back with numerous talks and demonstrations on a variety of compelling topics. On top of all this, you’ll hear from a host of inspiring speakers and be able to quiz Macmillan leaders in our Q&A sessions.
Wayne Griffiths, last year’s conference chair and a UK Volunteer Forum member, tells us what makes the event so special.
'It really has the feel-good factor,' he says. 'There will be a wealth of positivity and buoyancy around the new venue. The volunteers who attend can expect to feel properly recognised for the difference they’re making and they can also look forward to a good laugh.'
It made me feel so proud to be a volunteer. Macmillan really do value us very highly indeed.
Ian, 2017 Volunteer Conference attendee
One of the most inspiring parts of the event is always the Macmillan Volunteer Awards ceremony, where we celebrate our UK award winners and say thank you to all our volunteers. It will take place on the Thursday evening, beginning with a drinks reception and ending with a dinner and dance. It’s always emotional, entertaining and enormously enjoyable.
It’s really easy to apply for a place at this year’s Volunteer Conference and Awards. Just click the button below, enter your details and your preferences, then click ‘Apply’. Do hurry, though, as applications will only be open until 4 April.
If oversubscribed, we will prioritise volunteers who have been with us for over a year but have never attended a Volunteer Conference before. If you’ve been successful in your application, we will contact you to let you know by the end of April.
In the meantime, please help us spread the word by telling the other volunteers you know that they can apply for a place now too. We hope to see you there!
