Making a personal major gift

Major gifts can make a huge impact on the support we can provide people living with cancer. Find out more about giving a personal philanthropic gift.

Personal donations

By giving a personal donation you are doing something incredibly special for people living with cancer. By doing this we can make sure more people than ever before get the support they need from the moment they are diagnosed with cancer.

Philanthropy helps us to transform the services and support we give to people living with cancer. By supporting our work, you can make a huge difference to the people we are here to support.

Voluntary donations make up more than 98% of our income, and it's only thanks to the support of people like you that we can continue our work.

How we can work together

We know that giving at a philanthropic level is hugely personal, so we want to make sure that your experience of working with Macmillan fits your expectations. We work closely with each and every major donor to make sure that they are able to engage with our work in the way that suits them best.

All philanthropists will receive:

  • a dedicated member of the Philanthropy Team to be your point of contact
  • regular updates on the impact of your giving
  • opportunity to visit our services as is appropriate to your interests
  • exclusive invitations to information-led events and priority access to our fundraising events.

Making your donation reach even further

Higher rate taxpayers and tax relief

If you're a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim back the difference between higher rate and basic rate tax on the value of your donation. For a 40% rate taxpayer, that means for every £1 you donate, you can claim back 25p in tax relief.

Maximising your gift with Gift Aid

If you are a UK tax-payer simply completing this Gift Aid declaration could enable Macmillan to increase your gift by an additional 25%. Please note that you must have paid income tax on the amount of Gift Aid claimed in the tax year you made your donation.
