Support our new services in Hull and East Riding

Please help us raise much needed funds for people affected by cancer in the East Riding & Hull area where Macmillan plans to invest £1million in vital new cancer services.

We need your help

Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face. Every year in East Riding & Hull, 2274 people hear the devastating news they have cancer. The number of people living with cancer in this area is set to almost double by 2030.

We are introducing new cancer support services across the area, including more Macmillan nurses. But we need your help to make this a reality.

People with cancer in this area already benefit from a team of Macmillan professionals. However, the demand for our services continues to grow as more people are diagnosed with cancer.

Can you help us?

Please help us to ensure no one in East Riding & Hull faces cancer alone by supporting our £1 million programme of improvements.

Your support will enable us to fund more essential cancer services in the East Riding & Hull area, like the following:

  • 3 Macmillan Palliative Cancer Nurse Specialists
The Palliative Care team at Castle Hill and Hull Royal Infirmary do an exceptional job caring for patients and their families but they are extending their hours to provide support 7 days a week which means they need 3 new specialist nurses to join their team.
  • A Macmillan Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialist
Macmillan would like to provide extra resource to support bowel cancer patients in the local area. This new post will give increased access to specialist nursing at a time when access to information and support is vitally important to patients and families.
  • A Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse
Macmillan are funding a new lead cancer nurse based at Castle Hill Hospital. This is a senior role which will lead and strengthen the development of cancer services across Hull ensuring that patients and families receive the high-quality care and treatment which meets their needs.
  • A Brain Tumour & Central Nervous System Care Co-ordinator
This role will be the first point of contact for the Clinical Nurse Specialist Team and will ensure that patients get advice and support as quickly as possible to help reduce their anxiety. It will ensure they get essential emotional and physical support when it’s needed most.

So how can you help?

  • Support Macmillan through your business or group of friends
  • Organise a Macmillan fundraising event
  • Make a donation
  • Become a Macmillan volunteer
  • Join Team Macmillan and take on a challenge- run, walk, cycle.

This is why we need to do more.

'My daughter Vicki passed away from cancer in 2013 when she was only 41. We are so grateful that we had the support of Macmillan right from her initial diagnosis. The Macmillan team gave Vicki and our family their time, energy, support and advice so we didn’t have to go through it on our own.

'I am so pleased that Macmillan are wanting to invest so heavily in new local cancer services, especially at Castle Hill where Vicki received so much of her care. I know first-hand how hard cancer can be and to have to go through all of that without Macmillan would be unimaginable.'
