Macmillan Adoptions for Professionals
An Adoption is an arrangement where the employing organisation self-funds the post(s) and the post holder(s) have the benefits of being a Macmillan Professional. This means the post holder(s) will use the Macmillan title in their job and can apply for Macmillan grants and get access to learning and development and wider support from Macmillan.

Eligibility criteria
Macmillan Adoptions have specific eligibility criteria that may differ from standard requirements, as these roles are unfunded. Please review the criteria below carefully before applying. If you're unsure about your eligibility, complete the eligibility quiz or speak to your Macmillan representative. If you are unsure who your Macmillan representative is please contact macprofessionals@macmillan.org.uk
- The role must strategically align with Macmillan’s charitable objectives (e.g., Lead Cancer Nurse, Lead AHP). Or, the professional must work exclusively with cancer patients, except in palliative care roles.
- The post holder(s) must aspire to be a Macmillan Professional(s) and understand the role's expectations.
- The applicant must be able to demonstrate clearly the impact the role has within your organisation and community.
- The post holder(s) must always use the Macmillan name and logo in their job title, name badge and communications while they are working on the intervention.
- Support from your employing organisation is required to become a Macmillan Professional.
- Applications will only be considered for up to four posts. For any team with more than four posts, please speak to your Macmillan representative.
How to apply
To apply for an adoption of a post to become a Macmillan Professional, please follow these steps:

- Seek approval: Seek approval from your line manager and organisation.
- Contact Macmillan: Get in touch with your Macmillan representative to discuss your proposal further and request an application form.
- Review and approval: Macmillan will review your application and notify you of the outcome.
