Move More Northern Ireland

Move More Northern Ireland is part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s national campaign to ensure that people living with cancer are supported to become physically active, both before, during and after their treatment.

Many people living with cancer want to make positive changes to their lives, and taking steps to have a healthier lifestyle can be a big part of this.

Move More Northern Ireland is a physical activity service that helps people living with cancer become, and stay active, in a way that suits them.

Being active before, during and after treatment has many benefits. It can help to:

  • reduce tiredness, anxiety and depression
  • improve quality of life
  • look after your heart
  • strengthen your muscles, joints & bones
  • improve your flexibility
  • increase your confidence
  • reduce the risk of other health problems and the recurrence of some other cancer types.

How can Move More Northern Ireland help me?

We will help you to get active in an activity that’s right for you.

This could be:

  • walking (independently or as part of a walking group)
  • moving more in your home or garden
  • going to your local gym or swimming pool
  • swimming
  • activity classes eg yoga, pilates, mindfulness or spin cycling
  • sports

We also provide a range of cancer-specific activity classes where you can get active with other people living with cancer in a fun and friendly environment.

Move More Coordinators

Each Move More Northern Ireland project is managed and delivered by a Move More Coordinator who can meet with you at a time and place that suits to:

  • discuss your goals and motivations
  • identify physical activity opportunities that are safe, appropriate and accessible
  • offer free sessions and discounted membership rates at your local leisure centre
  • provide you with the tailored support that you need to begin and sustain an active lifestyle.
