Yes! You can choose whether to share your first name, post anonymously, or use an alias.

In many cases, Macmillan can give you guidance to help you create or edit your story. We can discuss this when you sign up to discover your individual preferences.

At this time we're not accepting stories from people affected by cancer on Companion, but we are considering introducing this in the future. If you would be interested in doing this, please email innovate@macmillan.org.uk to let us know. In the meantime, there are other ways for people affected by cancer to share their story. Find out more.

Please click Submit my story. You can then tell us which type of story you are interested in sharing on the site, whether that's a piece of advice, a blog, or a video. We will then give you details on how to email us, and what to include in your email. We can support you to create your story. It will be moderated before it appears on the site. You will be given final sign-off before anything is published.

Everyone's experience is different, and all stories are valid. We will always do our best to publish stories in full. However, in some cases we may need to moderate stories, such as:

• if they are too long to be hosted on the site
• if they include people's surnames
• if they contain overly negative or potentially libellous descriptions of medical care.
  
  

We will always let you know if any changes have been made, and you will get the opportunity to review your story before it is published.

That can completely depend! If you give a piece of advice, you could be done in less than five minutes.

If you're writing a blog or creating a video it will take longer. Ideally blogs should be between 300-750 words, and videos should be 2-5 minutes long.

We'd recommend planning out what you'd like to say before you start writing or recording.
