After my operation, I didn’t know when I was going to be able to return to work. It was quite hard to make a decision like that, especially after I’ve had previous surgeries and returned to work too soon.
My job is quite physical and highly demanding. I could hardly walk a couple of steps before I became breathless, so I definitely couldn’t do my job.
Going back to work was paramount. That was the first thing that was on my mind even before I had the surgery.
I was really worried about paying my mortgage and just general bills. I live alone, and if I don’t go out to work there’s no one else who’s going to pay my bills.
Emma’s support was huge because, when it was all happening, I couldn’t see past tomorrow with regards to my business, with regards to my home.
She played a massive role in my recovery. It’s not just only about the benefits she was able to secure for me – she gave me a better mental attitude towards dealing with the whole illness.
Emma’s help has meant the world to me, recovering fully before returning to work. Now I have returned to work I feel like my business has actually got better. The time that I had off gave me time to reflect on how to move forward.
