On 5 July, the APPGC hosted its annual Summer Reception in the Strangers’ Dining Room in Parliament. The reception was a great success with around 70 attendees from across the cancer community including parliamentarians, charities, patient representatives, Cancer Alliance Leads and Clinical Commissioning Groups.
At the Reception, the APPGC was re-launched in the new Parliament, where both new and returning MPs were invited to join the Group as Members and Officers. We also launched our inquiry into the England Cancer Strategy and continued our campaign to improve one year survival rates by celebrating those Clinical Commissioning Groups who have most improved their one year survival rates.
We heard speeches from the new Minister, Steve Brine MP, Nicola Hunt, Cancer Programme Director for NHS England, Professor Sean Duffy, Cancer Alliance Lead for West Yorkshire and Harrogate and Chair of the APPG on Cancer, John Baron.
All speakers emphasised the importance of delivering the ambitions of the Cancer Strategy with Steve Brine stating that 'he wanted the priorities of the Cancer Strategy to become the priorities of Government'.
