What's on offer?

Macmillan’s website LearnZone is full of free courses and information to help you develop. The great thing is that you can complete the courses in your own time by saving and logging back in at a later date.

We also have a range of face-to-face training sessions, such as 'Listening and Responding', which can help you whatever your volunteer role.

How we’ve helped Jackie develop

As a lead volunteer, the training Jackie's received from Macmillan has helped her develop skills in a number of areas. Along with the team of volunteers she manages, Jackie offers practical and emotional support to people affected by cancer in their homes.

'I learnt a lot from the core Macmillan training,' says Jackie. 'But as a group we applied for additional training for loss and bereavement, which Macmillan organised for us. I was also very fortunate to be able to do the 'Cancer Support' course last year – that was absolutely brilliant.

'We share things we've learnt from our experiences within our meetings, and if we feel someone in our team would be better off visiting people with an experienced volunteer or a lead volunteer, we do that.

'I believe it’s really important volunteers look after themselves too, so we asked for training in mindfulness and wellbeing. That's helped so much. From my experience, Macmillan will support you in many ways.'
