Fundraising FAQs

What is the minimum fundraising amount?
We ask you to raise a minimum of £350 to help people living with cancer.

Can Macmillan help with my fundraising?
Definitely! Once you’ve registered, keep a look out for your fundraising pack in the post which should arrive within 2-3 weeks. This includes a comprehensive fundraising guide with advice and ideas on how to reach your fundraising target, along with a sponsorship form and other resources.

You can also access everything you need, from fundraising resources and ideas to online fundraising tips and information about paying in your donations at macmillan.org.uk/bringonthefundraising.

We will also be in touch every couple of months with helpful e-newsletters, and you can email or call our Supporter Care Hub on 0300 1000 200 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) anytime you have a fundraising question. They will also be able to order any materials you may need including collection boxes and buckets, balloons, posters and extra sponsorship forms.

Why is there a minimum fundraising amount?
As for any charity, buying places in these events costs money. The registration fee doesn’t cover the full cost of our involvement in the event, so we must set a minimum fundraising amount. This ensures the costs of the event are covered so that the majority of money raised is spent on our vital services to help people affected by cancer.

What is JustGiving and how do I set up a page?
JustGiving is one of the most trusted platforms for online giving and is very simple to use. Once you've set up your page you can share it with friends, family and colleagues and they can make an online donation of their chosen amount and leave you a message. It was also ask if their donation is eligible for Gift Aid.

The money donated to your page comes straight to Macmillan, which means no trips to the bank or hours counting pennies.

What happen if I don't raise the minimum fundraising amount?
It is important that everyone reaches the minimum fundraising pledge of £350 to ensure Macmillan doesn't lose money on your participation and the majority of what you raise helps those affected by cancer.

We provide you with as much help as we can to help you reach this amount. You can access fundraising resources, ideas and tips at macmillan.org.uk/bringonthefundraising and our Supporter Care Hub is also available on 0300 1000 200 if you want further help. If it gets to a point where you feel you really can’t fundraise anymore then you are welcome to donate the remaining amount yourself.

How will my fundraising help?

£250 could pay for five people living with cancer to attend a health and wellbeing event, providing them with the skills to improve the management of these areas in their lives.

£335 could pay for a Macmillan grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together.

£546 could pay for a Macmillan Social Care Worker for a week, helping patients, family members and carers manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.

Every £800 we spend on our phone service could lead to our welfare rights advisors on the Macmillan Support Line helping people living with cancer claim up to £31,480 in benefits they are entitled to.

£1,203 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
