Types of stomach cancer

About 7,300 people are diagnosed with stomach cancer in the UK each year. There are different types. This section is about adenocarcinoma, which is the most common type and accounts for 95% of all stomach cancers. Adenocarcinoma starts in the glandular cells of the stomach lining.

What is cancer?

The stomach

The stomach stores food and breaks it down so our bodies can absorb the nutrients we need for energy.

The lymphatic system protects the body from infection and includes lymph nodes (glands). There are lymph nodes near the stomach.
