Lindsey was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2014. She had to undergo both surgery and radioactive iodine treatment.

Throughout this time, Lindsey had support from her Macmillan nurse Marie. ‘Marie was just a life-saver. She was so personal and really cared.’

Lindsey's story

A few days after I’d found out I had cancer, I was really frantic with worry and the doctor put me in touch with the Macmillan nurse Marie. Her support was fantastic. Marie answered all my questions and said she’d be at the end of the phone no matter what time it was, day or night. She explained everything in depth and just made me feel at ease and much more relaxed about the whole situation. She was just a life-saver. She was so personal and really cared. It felt great to have that support and connection.

The support I got from Macmillan was brilliant. They stood out from all the other nurses and were there whenever I needed them – offering advice over the phone at any time of the day. They were just really, really great.

Finding out that I had thyroid cancer was so scary and I just didn’t know what the future would hold. But the outcome has been great and I’ve been supported by so many fantastic people. Macmillan have really been there for me every step of the way.
