Get to know us
I look forward to doing my job every single day. Macmillan is a family made up of
individuals who have first class professional skills, are passionate about helping people and are willing to
go the extra mile to get things done. I love it and can’t recommend it highly
Lynda Thomas, Chief Executive
With over 98% of our income coming from voluntary donations in 2013 it's vital that we have a passionate team of fundraisers to make sure that we can continue to provide our services well into the future.
We are grouped around the different kinds of supporters that we have since they are at the core of everything that we do. The teams within Fundraising are
- Customer Care
- High Value
- Regional Fundraising
- Strategy and Performance
The roles within Fundraising are as varied as the ways that we fundraise. You could organise Coffee Mornings, lead treks to China or design new raffle games. Or you could crunch the numbers to find new ways to boost our fundraising efforts even further.
Is it for me?
We hire lots of people with a commercial background as well as those who've worked for a charity - we like the variety. For example, you might have worked in sales and marketing for a different organisation and want to make the leap into the charity sector.
Search for #TeamMacmillan on Twitter to see the kinds of things our fundraisers do.
Marketing and communicationsBack to top
We represent the face and voice of Macmillan. We inspire people to engage with us in long term relationships, working with teams across Macmillan to reach and inspire all of our audiences. We help ensure that everyone who comes to us has a consistent and positive experience – so they want to engage with us again and again.
From marketing insight to brand strategy development, we ensure our corporate aims are supported by the best marketing and communications expertise. Our teams help build awareness, understanding and engagement with our diverse audiences, using a wide range of activity and communications channels. They are:
- Customer Management
All of our roles centre on understanding who our audiences are, what they feel about us - and then building activity to communicate with them about Macmillan in the most effective way. You could be working with journalists, talking to online communities, redesigning our website or developing strategic marketing campaigns.
Is it for me?
Marketing will be your thing, whether you are a social media specialist, a designer or in PR. Like us, you're always coming up with new ideas, and we love listening to them. We welcome people with experience in similar roles in commercial organisations, as well as those who've worked in the sector before.

Services and influencingBack to top
Through our services we support people affected by cancer throughout their cancer journey. As well as providing services directly, all our teams work closely with the NHS and decision-makers to make sure people with cancer and their families are getting the best deal possible. Working with service development teams are the Cancer Services Innovation team who respond to changing needs and test new ideas in cancer services.
Our outstanding policy and research team influence at national level to ensure that people affected by cancer get a fair deal.
Our work is extensive - both in geography and scope - so we organise services and influencing into six teams. These are
- Policy and research
- Cancer Services Innovation
- Direct Services
- Professional Engagement
- Celtic Nations
- Service Excellence
Many of the positions directly support people affected by cancer - you could work on our Support Line or in one of our mobile information centres. If you enjoy strategic thinking and development you could be involved in influencing key partners or designing new services.
Is it for me?
Whatever your role you'll help people affected by cancer on a daily basis, whether directly or indirectly. For most of our services roles you'll need a background in health or social care and for roles at our head office you're likely to have worked in strategy or development.

We support all the people across Macmillan to be the best they can be. We make sure we have the right people in the right roles, with the right infrastructure and resources to deliver their work effectively and achieve our big ambition.
We split ourselves into specialist teams to support the organisation effectively. These are:
- Human Resources
- Legal & Governance
- Business Analysis
- Risk and Assurance
Our teams are filled with professionals who use their expertise to help the organisation be the best it can be. There are a wide range of roles, from HR business partners and IT developers to finance advisers and volunteering programme managers, plus a whole lot more.
Is it for me?
We hire lots of people from all types of organisations. Often people come to us from outside the charity sector. Whatever your background, you'll share our professional and advisory approach and be an expert in your field.
