Financial help is available in the form of welfare benefits, tax credits, grants and loans, and help from your local authority. It is worth speaking to a benefits adviser to work out what you could be entitled to.

Availability will generally be from 10am to 4pm but the service endeavours to be flexible to fit in with demand. On receipt of a referral we contact the client to arrange a convenient time and location for the appointment, generally at one of the hospitals. We also provide telephone advice between 10am and 1.30pm on 0121 683 5601. Referrals are made through the clinical nurse specialists, other health professionals and allied health professionals, social workers and other providers of care. Referrals can be made by using a referral form (except in exceptional and urgent cases) sent by fax or email. Self referrals can be made by telephone. Service provided: Macmillan and CAB are providing a specialist welfare benefit service to anyone diagnosed with cancer or their carers. The service is free to all clients irrespective of means. Anyone can refer clients. A home visiting service is available if cannot attend one of the 10 bureau centres we have throughout the region. Referral to other specialist advice such as housing, employment or debt will be made where required. Catchment area : North Cornwall, North and West Devon to the border with Somerset. We offer advice on a wide range of subjects, including debt, housing queries, employment issues and welfare benefits. The key aim is to maximise the income of people with cancer, their carers and families. We operate a local Partnership with the Pension Service who provide 2 dedicated staff to deal with referrals for people aged 60 and over. We also have a unique Partnership with Glasgow City Council’s Revenues Section, with a dedicated worker dealing with Housing and Council Tax Benefit issues. We have established key outreach facilities at New Stobhill Hospital (Wednesdays), New Victoria Hospital (Tuesdays) and in Partnership with Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Services at The Library in The Bridge, Easterhouse (Fridays). We also have a member of staff working as part of the team at The Beatson Oncology Centre four days a week. We provide home visits and also work closely with the major Hospices in Glasgow such as The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and Marie Curie. Referrals: Referrals can be made by anyone through telephone, fax, email or in writing. Catchment area: The service covers the Glasgow area. Referrals received for customer’s outside this area are passed on to our fellow Macmillan services in those areas.
