Help Macmillan nurses

Macmillan Nurses are highly experienced professionals who use their expert knowledge to give tailored care and support to people living with cancer. They include Clinical Nurse Specialists, who help people make informed decisions about their treatment, as well as help them manage their treatment.

Macmillan Nurses are supported through learning and development grants. This enables them to continue their professional development and give the best possible care to people living with cancer.

Our nurses offer help and information not just to patients, but also to their families, friends and carers. By guiding people through the different types of services, they help people get the emotional, physical and financial support they need.

Help Macmillan support workers

Macmillan support workers work alongside nurses and other health and social care professionals as part of the cancer care team. They act as a single point of contact for people living with cancer from the moment they are diagnosed onwards.

They coordinate appointments, give advice, and signpost people to sources of information and other services. They also listen to the needs of people who are in need of emotional support.

Support workers help answer patient queries, and ensure more complex issues are answered by a more senior nurse or health professional. This means a support worker can help free up 30-40% more time in a Macmillan Nurse's day, giving extra time to support their patients.

In 2020, our Macmillan nurses reached more than 1 million unique people affected by cancer. We want to support everyone that needs our help – now and in the future.
