Our partnership with Kier

Kier pledged to fund 4,000 nursing hours over a two-year partnership to help people affected by cancer. By the end of the first year they had already funded over 7,000 hours.

Over the first 12 months of the partnership Kier teams fundraised during key seasonal events such as Valentine's Day, Halloween and Christmas. More than 30 of their offices also took part in our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Employees have shown individual commitment to the partnership by taking on challenge events and other fundraising activities in their own time.

Alan Smith, Director of Group Corporate Responsibility and trustee of The Kier Foundation, said:

'On behalf of Kier and The Kier Foundation, I would like to thank all those Kier employees who have worked so hard, mostly in their own time, volunteering, running, cycling, swimming, walking, baking and serving to raise such a tremendous amount of funds for Macmillan Cancer Support over the past twelve months of the partnership.

'We should all be proud of our achievements in this first year, so let’s keep up the momentum for the next and final twelve months supporting this great cause.'

As part of our partnership, Kier is committed to raising awareness of Macmillan services among their employees and the broader communities in which they work. As part of their wider health and wellbeing programme they are communicating cancer awareness information and promoting initiatives such as The Source to employees, as well as using their external channels to help us reach more people affected by cancer who need support.

Kier employees have also been encouraged to offer their time to support cancer patients by volunteering and completing practical challenges. These have included garden makeovers and refurbishment of the outdoor space at the Macmillan Cancer Unit at Milton Keynes General Hospital.

Plans are already well under way for the second year of our partnership and together, Kier and Macmillan are looking forward to seeing what they can achieve.
