Cancer Care Review (CCR)
The Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) requires all general practitioners (GPs) to carry out a CCR with a person affected by cancer, within six months of receiving notification of a diagnosis.
The QOF lacks clarity about what the CCR should consist of and what is helpful and necessary to include. As a result the experience for the person affected by cancer is variable.
The Macmillan primary care community has worked with the main GP IT system providers, INPS, Systmone and EMIS, to develop CCR templates similar to those for other chronic disease to ensure the consistency and quality of the review.
During 2010 Macmillan Cancer Support tested and evaluated the use of the new CCR template, looking specifically at how the template was used by GPs, how it could be used more effectively and also how helpful the review was for people affected by cancer.
