Our partnership with Costain

£1 million charity challenge to mark Costain Group’s 150 year anniversary.

One of the UK’s leading engineering solutions providers, Costain undertook a challenge with a difference in 2015. It aimed to raise £1 million for the British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support, The Prince’s Trust and Samaritans, via the Costain Charitable Foundation. As part of the Group’s 150 year anniversary celebrations, employees, contractors and customers were encouraged to participate in a wide range of fundraising events throughout 2015. By the end of the year, they had raised an amazing £1,137,350 in total with Macmillan receiving an incredible £282,000.

Catherine Warbrick, Director for Corporate Responsibility at Costain, said: 'Each of the charities’ work resonates with many of the initiatives Costain is currently involved with. Whether it’s trying to help young people into work, or improving the wellbeing, both mentally and physically, of its employees and the communities it serves.'

'Our aim was to raise £1 million and we’re delighted to have achieved this. All of us at some point, either personally or through someone we know, has benefited from the great work these charities do. We have a fantastic track record of imaginative and energetic fundraising and this new challenge will help even more people take part and share in the success of their colleagues.'

Speaking on behalf of the four charities which the money will be split equally between, Rhys Parker, Corporate Account Manager at Macmillan said:

’We are all extremely excited and grateful to have been chosen as part of the Costain Group’s 150 year celebrations. For each of the charities involved in the challenge the money raised will go a long way to helping hundreds, if not thousands of people in the future.'

'This could be in the form of funding a BHF research project into cardiovascular disease or the cost of four Macmillan nurses for a year. Alternatively it could go towards helping The Prince’s Trust support a disadvantaged young person to turn their life around, or ensuring that someone is there to answer a call to Samaritans from an individual who may be struggling to cope. All the money raised will make a difference to helping people across the country.'
