Council Tax Support
Council Tax Support is a new system for people in England, Scotland and Wales who need help to pay their council tax. It replaces Council Tax Benefit, council tax discounts, exemptions and reductions.
The system is run by local authorities and each authority sets the rules for its area. This includes rules about which groups of people it will help. The government still sets some of the rules, including help for people claiming State Pension.
How to claim
Contact your local authority.
Help with housing costs (MT)
If you claim income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, income-related Jobseeker’s Allowance or Pension Credit, you might be able to get extra help with your mortgage interest payments. These benefits may also cover other housing costs, such as service charges and ground rent.
It’s a good idea to get advice from an experienced welfare rights adviser about whether you could access this help. Call us free on 0808 808 00 00.
