Peggotty Moore, Macmillan Information and Review Lead for Radiotherapy and Oncology Outpatients
‘I’m a therapy radiographer at Guy’s and St Thomas’, where I manage the Treatment Support team.
'We review patients going through radiotherapy treatment, and tell them what to expect during treatment and how to manage any side effects.‘
There’s no typical day – that’s the joy of it. I really enjoy working with patients and hoping that I’ve made their life a little easier.
‘Though lots of people know about chemotherapy and surgery, radiotherapy isn’t that widely known so helping people to cope with its wide-ranging effects is really rewarding.
‘Macmillan grants, in particular, can really help. We were treating a lady who had such an old kitchen she couldn’t plug in a fridge. I got a grant to pay for a fridge and an electrician to install it.
‘I’d always admired the work Macmillan do and started fundraising even before I worked here. I’ve now done seven treks: the first one was the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, and the most recent one was in Cuba .
‘I keep saying I’m going to rest, but if something else catches my eye, I'll probably do it. I’m going to try and get a team together from the department.’
