At Macmillan we’re in the fantastic position of having fundraisers of all ages right across the country. And Lucy Hill, an inspirational 11-year-old from Maidstone, is one of our youngest.
It wasn’t just any old challenge that Lucy took on. She cycled a staggering 102 miles along the Kent coastline in only three days, alongside her dad Gavin, raising over £1,750 for us in the process.
And, as Lucy’s mum Julia says, she’s following in some proud fundraising footsteps. ‘Each of Lucy’s siblings has fundraised when they’ve been in year six so it’s become a family tradition.
We know cancer affects so many people and our friends have benefited from Macmillan’s support – that’s why Lucy decided to do the bike ride.’
And the whole community has got behind her. Lucy’s school held a non-uniform day and Lucy has also made a speech in front of the local Parish council. The great news is she’s already raised £1,750, smashing the target she was aiming for – and there’s more to come.
Lucy is understandably proud of her fantastic achievement, ‘My older sister Laura raised £1,050 and my brother George raised £1,200, so my target was £1,250. It’s amazing to raise even more.’
