The pancreas

The diagram shows a close-up view of the pancreas and nearby structures. In the centre is the pancreas which is made up of three parts: the head, body and tail. A pancreatic duct is shown running along the centre of the pancreas, from the tail to the head. The pancreatic duct connects with the common bile duct just before they both open in to the small bowel or duodenum. This is called the Ampulla of Vater. Above the pancreas is the gall bladder and the beginning of the common bile duct.
