Opportunities available to volunteer within Palliative Care and Cancer Services in Antrim Hospital site in a variety of roles.
The aim of the volunteer service is to improve patient experience in Cancer Services and Palliative Care at Antrim Area Hospital by enhancing and complementing existing services whilst promoting social, learning and development opportunities for volunteers based at the Macmillan Unit and Laurel House. Volunteers are involved in a variety of roles, offering beauty therapy, hairdressing, life story recording, meal time companionship and social opportunities to patients and complementary therapy to patients and carers. Volunteers also provide a meet and greet role within the Macmillan Unit and assist with gardening activities. At Laurel House volunteer drivers are available to assist with transport for patients attending chemotherapy appointments and information and support volunteers provide a key role in offering a listening ear to patients and carers and signposting them to relevant services in their local area.
