FAB was initially set up in 2012 to primarily (but not exclusively) raise awareness and support to African/Caribbean men and families affected by prostate cancer. Since, FAB has widened membership composition and its support. Core support is delivered via self-help group meetings for men. Most attendees have/had prostate cancer or other prostate-associated pathology. Members are supported to share experiences in a friendly, informal, and yet confidential setting.Health and welfare educational information is arranged via presentations to the group. Befriending can be arranged to accompany members for medical appointments. FAB also signposts members to other charities and services. As FAB is entirely run by volunteers, members and supporters may choose to participate in voluntary fund-raising events. In addition, members may participate in medical research projects concerning improving the treatment and experience of living with prostate cancer.
