The Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service offers free, confidential benefits advice and assistance to people affected by cancer (patients, their families and carers). The service is available to all residents of the Sunderland local authority area. We can help apply for social security benefits and tax credits (including disability benefits and means tested benefits). We can also help access charitable grants, apply for help with health costs and apply for transport concessions, such as disabled parking badges. We can challenge unfavourable benefit decisions. We can contact other agencies that can assist you with other matters, for example debt, housing or employment issues. We can also offer employment advice and appeals assistance from the Council's Welfare Rights Service.
