Benefit advice services

Benefit Caseworkers advise and support patients & their families to claim a variety of different benefits. The benefits include: Disability and Carers Benefits – Personal Independence Payment, Disability Living Allowance; Attendance Allowance, Carers Allowance; Contribution based benefits – Employment Support Allowance, Job Seekers Allowance; Means tested benefits – Universal Credit, Council Tax Reduction, Pension Credits and Housing Benefit; Bereavement benefits; Funeral Payments; Industrial Injuries Benefits and other compensations for those who have developed cancer through former occupations – e.g. Asbestos Compensation Support with renewal claims for the above. If patients/carers have been refused benefits you will assist with challenging decisions and help with appeals. In addition to benefits advice we also provide advice on help with transport costs, Blue Badges, Macmillan Grants and other charitable support. We support patients and carers from diagnosis through to survivorship. Where a patient’s cancer becomes Palliative/end of life we support and ensure that special benefit procedures are adopted so that they receive support quickly. After a death, we support the patients’ loved ones with bereavement advice and offer support to alleviate financial pressures by ensuring they claim everything they are entitled to.
